“To give away money is an easy matter and in any man’s power.

But to decide to whom to give it and how large and when,
and for what purpose and how,
is neither in every man’s power nor an easy matter.”
-Aristotle

Many of us have made several charitable contributions. We usually start with a check to our kid’s school, our alma mater, or the local food bank. But getting involved in philanthropy and community impact, really involved, requires a more informed and purposeful approach. While it’s easy to give away money, it’s harder to do it well. Imagine you were beginning your philanthropic journey. What would that look like? Click here to read more.

What I’m Learning: Becoming a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy
In an effort to best serve my clients, I passed all three exams in The American College Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) program in the last six months. I am proud to be eligible to be designated a CAP®, continuing to educate myself with the tools to help my clients articulate and advance their highest aspirations for self, family, and society.

What I’m Sharing: How a Philanthropy Coach can Inspire
I get excited to see the reaction on people’s faces when they ask “What do you do?”. It only takes a minute until they inevitably ask, “What’s a philanthropy coach?”
The answer can be tailored to what my clients (usually an individual or family) are looking for but commonly includes:

  • clarifying and aligning philanthropic values,
  • co-creating philanthropic goals and maintaining focus,
  • creating and evaluating a flexible, sustaining and thoughtful giving plan,
  • developing partnerships with nonprofit organizations,
  • designing a learning agenda to become more familiar with the issues that you desire to address,
  • holding family meetings for various dimensions of building and executing the mission and goals of the family’s foundation,
  • establish relationships with like-minded peers.

Becoming a philanthropy coach has meant the integration of the many aspects of my passions, education, career and life over the last twenty-five years. I continue to learn from and be inspired by my clients every day. I love my job!

“Sometimes philanthropy seems like a little boat floating precariously
on a vast and angry ocean. But I’ve come to believe that in answering
a few key questions we can shape the rudder and sails of that boat.”
-Alan Alda, actor, author, philanthropist

Moving Along the Philanthropic Learning Curve
I work with people on their philanthropic journey from the “why” to the “what” and the “how”, and the “who” and the “where” of their giving.

I coach individuals and multigenerational families
on their philanthropic and community engagement strategy.
Together, we explore their values and develop a plan to leverage
their time, talent, treasure and ties.

it frees up oceans of energy to make a difference with what you have.”
